After a journal editorial questioned whether autism has lost its meaning and a television documentary questioned whether ADHD is real, almost everything written since has been about whether they were right. This post is about the impact this discourse has on a group already marginalised by an unequal society.
We want to hear from anyone who has needed emergency care, whether or not you are neurodivergent, and whether or not your experience was difficult. Emergency departments serve everybody, and this research has the potential to improve care for everybody.
In this reflection, I explore what it means to research emergency care as both a diagnostic radiographer and an autistic and ADHD (AuDHD) individual.
On 25th March 2025, we held the first consultation meeting for the NEEDs Project. We invited a diverse group of autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD adults to share their experiences of emergency care and give feedback on the plan for the project.
